Roman Blind Styles

If you're at all interested in Roman blinds, I would suggest that you check out the huge selection that's currently available for ordering online. They have all kinds of different Roman blinds for sale, in a variety of material, and the great thing about buying them on line is that they are pretty cheap.

There are two different styles of Roman blinds. One style, the more regular one, has a straight flat fold when the blinds are drawn up accordion style. They look very neat, and are usually the best kind to get as they fit with any style of room decor.

The other style blind doesn't lie flat when it's pulled all the way up, but it has a curved hem so that the shape of the blind when it is up is more of a teardrop shape. This style is great for a girlie themed bedroom, but it wouldn't look as appropriate in a boy's bedroom, at least I don't think it would. It would also look good in a drawing room, or living room, providing it matched the style of furniture, which is a more classic look--not necessarily a modern day look.

You are a bit more limited too in the material to use for teardrop shaped Roman blinds, as it needs to be fairly flexible, though not flimsy, in order to fall properly. Too stiff of material wouldn't fold properly, though it's great for the regular style of Roman blind.

Real Wood or Faux Wood for Blinds

If you can't decide whether to go with real wood blinds, or faux or composite wood blinds, there are a few things to consider that may help you reach the right conclusion on this.

For starters, real wooden blinds are often quite a bit more expensive than their faux wood counterparts. Now, you can't make that a hard and fast statement, as obviously there is a huge range of prices asked for blinds and curtains, and it not only depends on the type of material they're made out of, but also the designer, how popular the brand is, what the accessories are etc. . But in a lot of cases you will be able to find a faux blind that looks very similar to a wood blind yet it costs a lot less.

Another thing to consider is that faux wood often holds up a lot better in damp or humid environments, such as in kitchens and in bathrooms. That is because they're often coated with PVC or a type of water resistant coating that makes it impossible for the water and dampness to get in and damage and warp the blind.

They do tend to fade more than real wood blinds though, again because of their plastic outer covering. And they are also quite a bit heavier than real wood blinds, so you wouldn't necessarily want to hang them on a wide long window unless you don't have any plans for pulling them all the way up to the top of the window.

DIY Roller Blinds

Thinking that making roller blinds is very difficult? Well, guess what, it's not as difficult as it sounds. Actually you can buy online roller blind making kits which takes all the difficulty out of making roller blinds.

All you need to do is choose the material that you want to make the blinds out of, stiffen it if necessary, then assemble the blind following the instructions you receive. When you buy the kit you also get all the needed accessories that you will have to have in order to actually hang the roller blind. Hanging the blind is the easiest part, once it is all done.

Imagine how proud you would feel showing someone a new roller blind and then telling them that you actually made it yourself. If you are so inclined, here is a link where you can find your roller blind kit, although there are other places you can buy them from also. I have tried this one and it worked out quite nicely. I only did one blind though :-) DIY Blinds
